Down the private lane, skip over the stream and Pont Faen awaits you. This delightful, lovingly restored, three bedroom white cottage nestles in a rural landscape with breathtaking views across the gardens and surrounding hills. Enter into the spacious farmhouse kitchen with its slate floor and pale grey painted units – everything you could possibly need has been thought of (full size fridge/freezer, built in oven with halogen hob, dishwasher, washer and separate dryer etc). This then leads into the original conservatory, with wooden floor, which now hosts the oak dining table with stylish dining chairs and seating for 6. The wrap around windows look across the gardens and you feel that you have the whole of this glorious region just to yourselves. The stylish, comfortable living room with double height ceilings is simply charming – squishy sofa, armchairs to sink into and an antique ottoman. Delightful kilims and carefully chosen paintings and wall hangings complete its charm. The log burner with free logs is perfect for chilly evenings. The kitchen, conservatory and living room all have underfloor heating. A corridor leads to the 3 bedrooms – Bedroom One has a Queen size bed which snuggles under the painted 19th Century lintel. The pale green painted walls and sea grass carpets add to its tranquillity.
The smart en-suite bathroom with underfloor heating has a large bath with hand held shower unit. Pale cream walls and pretty wall tiles compliment the room. Bedroom Two with pale pink walls and antique white painted double bed is charming – with handmade built in cupboards and wardrobes. Bedroom Three has full size bunk beds and is perfect for either adults or children – the pale grey walls have been decorated with quirky posters. The hall is decorated with family history and there is even an old miner’s lamp in one of the window recess’. No fighting for views – each room offers a different aspect of the wrap around gardens. Bedrooms Two and Three share the family bathroom with shower cubicle, sink and loo.
This is a cottage where fabrics and fresh and colours pale and tranquil – Pont Faen has been restored in harmony with its surroundings whilst retaining many of its original features.
The star of the show is the location ... and the outlook. French windows lead from the conservatory onto the flagged patio with smart garden furniture - perfect for lazy breakfasts or a BBQ in the summer. The gardens have been carefully tended – wander into the surrounding woodlands, kick a ball around or just enjoy the seclusion. To the back of the house a few steps lead up to our secret garden and the lake – the views across the mountains towards nearby Porthmadog are spectacular. You can walk towards Black Rock Sands without meeting a soul. Whether you are looking for a romantic retreat or a peaceful family holiday, we can promise you that it will be love at first site.
Carregfelen, Tyn Llech, Hebog Bach, Pont Faen and Y Boncyn all nestle on the private, leafy Wern Estate on the edge of Snowdonia. This is the gateway to enjoy the very best that the Llyn Peninsula has to offer. The mountains of Snowdonia; the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways; Glorious Castles; Walking, Sailing, Fishing and divine beaches! The delightful seaside town of Criccieth is only minutes away, with its sandy beach and splendid Castle, as is the superb beach at Black Rock. The owner of these 4 houses is David Williams-Ellis whose great uncle (Clough Williams-Ellis) designed nearby Portmeirion.
